250 000 accepted cultivar names gives Culton a flying start

Culton has begun the search for large data collections with accepted cultivar names, and are happy to have received a large contribution recently from Theo Damen, an independent researcher in Botany and Systematics.

He has background from Wageningen University, one of the prominent centra for agricultural research in Europe, the same place where our reference group members Wilbert Hetterscheid and Ronald van den Berg has been working.

Theo is contributing, on voluntary basis, cultonomic data and database management for several botanic gardens and collections in the Netherlands as well as doing his own research work:

We have started our own process of implementing the dataset for the Culton checklist, which involves:

  • Comparing with other datasets
  • Checking sources with respect to legal matters for use in Culton
  • Restructuring and normalising (aligning all entries with our own data structure)
